Join us for our Holiday Lighting annual production hosted by Rob and Jeannine from Magic 96.5 Morning Show.
We will have an evening full of music featuring performances by Alabama Symphony Orchestra Chorus and Red Mountain Theater Company Youth Show Choir. We will have free photos with Santa following the event. Please bring an unwrapped toy to donate to Children's of Alabama's Sugar Plum Shop. We will also have cookie decorating, face painting, holiday coloring activities and hot cocoa! We will end with the lighting of our 23' tree.
The Sugar Plum Shop is an in-hospital holiday toy store-just one piece of a magical holiday season at Children's of Alabama. The Sugar Plum Shop, presented by Regions Bank, is Children's of Alabama's program for inpatients and their families who spend the holidays at the hospital. Hospital staff, corporate partners and volunteers build a toy store in the hospital and invite parents to shop-free of charge-for gifts for their patient and their other children in the days leading up to the Christmas holiday. Through the Sugar Plum Shop, Children's hopes to empower parents by providing access to free toys and gifts during the holidays when they may feel especially powerless about the fact that their child is spending time in the hospital.
In 2011, more than 500 children received gifts from the Sugar Plum Shop. Volunteers wrapped the gifts while parents enjoyed a small break from the stress of their child's hospitalization in the Hospitality Suite.
If want to make a donation, please deliver all unwrapped gifts to the Elf Depot in The Children's of Alabama Lobby by Monday, December 17th.
Cannot accept: Candy, food, used stuffed animals, used books, toy weapons, toys that have weapons attached or any kind of "shooting" toy, yo-yos, jump ropes, paddle boards with string and ball attached.
The Sugar Plum Shop can use wrapping materials including gift bags and wrapping paper as well.
